| Jiama Palace |
| Located in the southwest of Mozhugongka County, Jiama Palace is 73 kilometers from Lhasa to its east and 206 kilometers from the county to its west. It was once the political center during the time of the Tubo regime. By the end of the sixth century, the regime transferred its political power to Lhasa. It was said that Songtsen Gampo was born in the palace in Mozhugongka. When Gushri Khan, the chieftain of Mongol Qoshot tribe, led his troop entering Tibet as invited by the Gelug Sect, he was blocked by the Wanhu (an official in charge of ten thousand household) of Jiama. Many ancient buildings were burned down and destroyed. Numerous toxophily holes are still left on the remains of the rampart, and outside of the city gate is a large expanse of traps for horses. The Jiama Valley nearby has beautiful scenery and is a good place for outing and sightseeing. |
