| Music and dances of Tibet |
| The Land of Snow is known as the "Ocean of Songs and Dances? and indeed singing and dancing are greatly enjoyed by the Tibetans. At holidays and festivals, everyone from toddlers to grannies joins in the dancing, gaily singing hand in hand. When harvest time and the threshing season come round, songs accompany the work and sometimes the laborers even make a circle to dance. Nomads dance round bonfires all through the night without a thought of stopping, while on summer days townsfolk make for the parks with containers of barley beer for a picnic. No picnic is complete without dancing, and the revelers only return home when the day is done. For Tibetans, singing and dancing are not associated with stage performances but are a form of recreation and amusement. Every Tibetan and every Tibetan family loves to sing and dance, and thus the name "Ocean of Songs and Dances" is given. |
